Abstract:
This talk will be an overview of the many considerations involved in developing user interfaces for software. Initially the talk will focus on examples and lessons learned from user interface (UX) development in the gaming industry and then will discuss how those lessons are applicable and transferable into the world of corporate software development.
Bio :
Katie has developed software and technologies for companies including Day 1 Studios, Firaxis Games and Breakaway Ltd. where most of her work has been focused on User Interface development and design. She has both a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelors of Arts in Visual Arts concentrating in Animation from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) where she graduated magna cum laude in 2004. Over the course of her career she has shipped such titles as F.E.A.R.3, Civilization V, Command & Conquer 3 Expansion: Kane’s Wrath, and The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II – The Rise of the Witch-King and worked with platforms including the Xbox360, PS3 and PC. Katie also returns regularly to her alma mater to teach courses on Game Development, guest speak, and mentor.
