May 2011 Meeting – A Working Guy’s Take on HTML5

Speaker: Dave Clausen, Cloud Patterns
Topic: “HTML5”

Abstract: I’m a developer/architect with minimal artistic talent.
Some of my end-users are forbidden by Windows Group Policy from upgrading past IE7.
I set out to discover if HTML5 has any relevance to me.
If you can relate, then I hope you can benefit from the insights I picked up.

Topics covered (with some demonstrations):
• HTML5 background & introduction
• Why should I take the time to employ HTML5 if some browsers don’t support it?
• A first HTML5 page
• New elements
element – any use for non-graphic-artists?
• HTML5 and mobile devices
• Quick take on offline storage & media support

Bio : Dave Clausen, MCSD is cofounder of CloudPatterns, LLC (custom software development), and cofounder of Roadmap (web-based project portfolio tool).
